Endangered Salamander ABC's
Initally wanting to do a tryptch highlighting the diversity of salamander adaptations--terrestrial, aquatic, and boreal, I discovered that numerous salamander species were endangered due to habitat loss. Using the alphabet, each letter represents just one of the many more unique salamanders that are facing diminishing numbers.
A is for Anderson's Crocodile Newt (Echinotriton andersoni)--Endangered; lives in fragmented habitat on six islands of Japan.
B is for Barton Springs Salamander (Eurycea sosorum)--Vulnerable; found only in the Barton Springs pool in Austin, Texas.
C is for Celaque Climbing Salamander (Bolitoglossa celaque)--Critically endangered; climbs trees in Honduras.
